Things to know: students

To help you prepare for student and parent questions, we’ve gathered answers for some of the questions that we often hear from our student travelers.

How does group travel work?
Depending on the size of your group, you might travel with groups from other schools while on tour. We look for groups with similar tour and date requests to travel together. This enables us to keep our Program Fees the lowest—and gives thousands of students the chance to discover the world.

What are the hotels like on tour?
We choose safe, clean accommodations with private baths. Most EF hotels cater specifically to student groups and have access to public transportation. Advise your participants that hotels abroad usually have smaller rooms and beds than we are used to in North America.

What are the rooming arrangements on tour?
Students under age 20 share rooms with two or three other travelers of the same gender, either from their own group or from other groups with whom they are traveling. Each room will contain single beds or occasionally shared double beds, or a combination of the two. Students who wish to have twin rooms will be charged an additional fee.

What kinds of meals will we have?
Breakfast typically includes breads with butter and jam; juice, coffee, tea or cocoa; often cereal, yogurt, fruit, cheese or meat. We leave lunches open to make your own culinary discoveries, and dinner is a nutritious balance of familiar dishes and local favorites. Soft drinks and other beverages are not included.

What happens if there is an emergency on tour?
EF Tour Directors are professionally trained to handle any emergency that arises on tour. They carry mobile phones to keep them in constant contact with our North American headquarters as well as our local offices around the world. EF also maintains a 24-hour emergency service domestically and abroad.

How does the payment schedule work?
All travelers will automatically be enrolled in EF's monthly payment plan. Our convenient payment plan allows students to pay in smaller monthly installments and avoid late fees. Payments are automatically deducted from your bank account or charged to your credit or debit card.

My EF tours have given me a better understanding of other cultures and lifestyles. I had a great time on the tours, and our tour director was awesome. Now, I want to study abroad in college and travel more.
